Sometimes pictures are worth more than words

Nebbioli 2016: SUPER! These images want to show that our grapes grow up and mature on an environment “healthy and clean”, and that into our vineyards all the treatments against the illnesses are few invasive and lowered to the minimum requirement…and that’s for this reason that this insect has decided to create its own holiday-house on our Nebbiolo grapes!!! Green lacewings are insects in the large family Chrysopidae of the order Neuroptera, in the nonscientific language usually called Chrysopa. It is amply used in the biological control of insect pests on crops. The larvae are effective as biological control agents, in open-air environments these insects are common into the ecosystems where the chemical products are not used in large quantities. Dear Friends, with great pleasure we’ll present You here below a very interesting exhibition which will take place in London, organized by Giorgio’s sister Cristina Pelissero and her husband, the famous photographer Guido Harari, where You’ll find our wines to taste, too! The Kate Inside exhibition will open on September 13 until September 30 at the Art Bermondsey Project Space, 183-185 Bermondsey Street, SE1 (5 minutes walk from the London Bridge tube station, next to White Cube). Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 11am - 6pm. Sunday: 11am - 4pm (Monday closed). Free entrance. The show will coincide with the launch of the limited edition book and will feature 50 images, both classic and (mostly) unseen taken from it. All images will be available as fine art pigment prints in various sizes. We have All been recently following the progress of Mission Rosetta, a great step forward in our knowledge of the origins of life and the formation of planets. Ten years ago the Rosetta space probe was launched into space by ESA, European Space Agency. After a very long journey, on Nov. 12, 2014, Philae Lander abandoned Rosetta to lands on a comet. In the next few months humans will have a chance to study for the very first time a comet during its journey towards the sun. In 2004, a bottle of Pelissero Long Now was to be found in the Kourou space station in French Guyana, where Rosetta was launched from. Why? The bottle was opened to celebrate Long Now Foundation's Rosetta Disk being inserted in the space probe. The Rosetta Disk is a library etched on a solid nickel disk designed to last several millennia and containing thousands of languages, past and current, spoken on our planet. Indeed a contemporary version of the Rosetta Stone. In our small headquarters in the vineyards we're overjoyed to have been somehow part of such an historic moment. We'll never thank enough the Long Now Foundation for including our Long Now wine in their projects, therefore making us part of the Long Now of our civilization.

We would like to share with You All another important news about our estate: last Sunday 12 October in fact, after 4 weeks of hard and intense work, we completely finished the 2014 harvest operations. The vintage did not start in great conditions and its previsions were not so good, with the two months of June and July very humid and rainy, which did not permit the vine to grow up and express itself in the best way. August was not particularly warm, but it was considered as the only 'summery' month, with rare days of sun and warm temperatures. September started instead into the best conditions with warm and high temperatures that were perfect for the maturation of the grapes, and with a perfect alternation between freshness during the night and warmth during the day. All these factors create a unique, enjoyable consideration: the GREAT NEBBIOLO. Many problems and difficulties characterized the entire season for what concerns the management of the vineyards. And everyone was worried for the vintage, being not sure to reach a good quality level, not of the same quality than the ones of the last years. Now and arrived at the end I would like to underline what arose to the producers of the area. The Nebbiolo in particular proved itself to be as it has ever and never been in the history, that is 'a great machine for wine'. We have this year in fact intense colors, rich flavors, wonderful complexities and, in spite of a big decrease in quantity compared to the last vintages, I would like particularly to share together with You our greatest satisfaction for a vintage that I consider again a great one. PAPA FRANCESCO DRINKS BARBARESCO VANOTU PELISSERO!

Dear Friends, almost at the beginning of fall and after a very brief, fresh summer, waiting for the starting of the traditional harvest operations, that is with great honor and pleasure that we finally may announce you an amazing, astonishing news: our Barbaresco Vanotu 2010 flew together with His Holiness Papa Francesco during His trip towards South Korea on last 13th August. Our most historical and important Barbaresco was in fact selected and matched with the menu on board created for the Holy Father during His flight. This event has certainly been one of the most significant for our cellar, and that is really a unique reward, above all for the history of our family. For those who are not aware in fact one of the Pelisseros family cousins, Padre Pierino Moreno, was the Preposito Generale of the Chierici Regolari Somaschi order, while Giorgios maternal grandfather was the responsible of the choir and of the theatre, but also the official organist of the Church of his village. And considering that Papa Francesco is Piedmontese, emigrated to South America, and Pelissero family has furthermore a cousin promised prelate and emigrated to South America, too, we may surely affirm that this news touched us really deep-down. After many awards and prestigious rewards conferred to our Barbaresco Vanotu 2010, this has certainly been the most incredible and unexpected, and it filled the heart of all the people who work every day, every moment to produce excellent and quality wines that travel and are then tasted throughout the whole world, bringing a bit of Piemonte into the most various Countries overseas and arriving then to a significant spiritual authority. Langhe, Monferrato, Roero Patrimonio Mondiale UNESCO

Dear Friends, we are very happy to share with You the wonderful news arrived in the last days, referring to our beutiful hills and which involves the estates from Piemonte in the Langhe, Monferrato and Roero areas. We will show You the public statement arrived from Consorzio di Tutela del Barolo e del Barbaresco directly. No more words are necessary, we only would like to communicate You All this important information and moment. Have a good reading! Barolo and Barbaresco have become a UNESCO World Heritage. The decision was taken by the UNESCO Standing Committee, which met a few days ago in Qatar to examine 39 candidatures from all over the world. After 11 years of preparation, the candidature was submitted to the World Heritage Center in Paris in January 2013, and now the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato winegrowing landscape has been admitted to the prestigious World Heritage List. It was Italys sole candidature in the session and the recognition brings the countrys site totally to 50. In the hills of the two areas, which produce Barolo and Barbaresco, two of the worlds most famous wines, winegrowing has been the heart and soul of the economy for centuries. The UNESCO recognition is thus a reward not only for a land of vineyards, castles and medieval towers, but also for the labor of men and women down the ages. To find out more: Langhevini

the end of the harvest!!!

After five, long and very tiring weeks we will finally announce You that last Saturday 26th October the operations of 2013 HARVEST completely finished, and the last one will be remembered as a harvest very similar to the past and to the nearly lost traditions, because it was very late compared to the last vintages - but, as my grandfather used to say, the late harvests are always the best ones, since they usually give wonderful and very special presents: fingers crossed!!!!
